"Atiz" is derived from the word "creativity" in that the person skilled in creativity might be referred as a 'creatist' intentionally misspelled as 'creatiz'. The first three letters 'c-r-e' were taken out so that 'Atiz' would come the first when listed alphabetically.

The company was founded by Sarasin Booppanon when he was a Ph.D. student at George Mason University. While pursuing his doctorate in 2003, Sarasin regularly had to commute from home to school to spend countless hours in the library slowly photocopying books assigned by the professors. It became intolerable on one frigid night when he had to walk through the deep snow to the library to do the same old book copying chore.

It was obvious to Sarasin then that the world needs a better way to digitize information kept in books. He later contacted Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn, an expert in robotics and printed materials, to assist in bringing a fully automated page-turning scanner idea to life. Atiz Innovation Co., Ltd. was found in March, 2005 as a result and the office is located in Bangkok, Thailand.

After intense research and development, Atiz has successfully developed its first revolutionary product called BookDrive?. It was the world's first desktop-sized, automatic page-turning scanner that eliminates manually copying and scanning documents. To broaden the international presence of the company and product, Sarasin contacted Nick Warnock, former finalist of the T.V. show "The Apprentice" to help bring the technology to the United States. Due to Warnock's extensive background and past success in management and sales, as well as success on the show, Warnock was the ideal fit to run the U.S. company. As a result, Atiz Innovation, Inc. was incorporated as privately held company in Los Angeles, California in January 2006.
